According to the Japanese newspaper "Industry News", the price increase trend of several copper foil manufacturers for circuit boards is spreading recently. Some copper-clad laminate (CCL) manufacturers have received price increase notices citing rising labor costs and other costs, and the price increases vary depending on the product. The basic requirement is to increase processing fees by 10% excluding changes in copper foil prices. This price increase trend may trigger an increase in the prices of copper-clad laminates and circuit boards.
The price of copper foil is composed of raw material costs and processing costs. Copper foil manufacturers usually negotiate prices with copper-clad laminate (CCL) and flexible copper-clad laminate (FCCL) manufacturers every three months. The prices of raw materials are generally linked to the London Stock Exchange (LME), and this price increase is mainly aimed at the processing part, which mainly involves an increase in labor costs, logistics costs, etc. In the past, the reasons for price increases were mostly due to the rise in electricity bills and the price of copper foil surface treatment agents.
Mitsui Metal, the largest domestic producer of electrolytic copper foil in Japan, proposed to raise the price of ultra-thin electrolytic copper (MT) at its final accounting briefing in August this year. MT is mainly used for mobile phone IC carrier boards, and Mitsui Copper Foil occupies 90% of the world market share in this field, with obvious advantages in price negotiations. In addition, some manufacturers of electrolytic copper foil and rolled copper foil used in circuit boards have also started to raise prices and gradually penetrate.
